STEVENS STREET "WALK & TALK"

Updated: Apr 17, 2024

Often we drive through neighborhoods, thinking we know the sites- the houses, the people, the places. But, studies have shown when we walk the streets of a neighborhood our creativity increases and further evidence supports that walking together leads to more honest exchanges and more productive meetings. As an added benefit we get the full sensory experience. You see, hear, smell, taste, and feel the surroundings.

This Saturday, we experienced the Stevens Street Historic District,

discovering the neighborhood’s assets. Casual conversations ensued as the light exercise released endorphins opened us up meaningful conversations with each another.

We heard childhood memories of the "switch bush" and the people who had eyes on the neighborhood, and summers spent at the Weston Y.

Special thanks to all of our community hosts who gave updates and overviews at each stop. Lauretta Hadley, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church; Mike House, Thomasville Housing Authority; Gary Metcalf, Habitat for Humanity; Kenny Thompson, City of Thomasville; Tom Everett, Francis Weston YMCA + Scott Senior Center; as well as panelists Rendall Mash, Michael Bryant and Gary Metcalf.
