COLLARD GREENS ARE MORE THAN A SIDE DISH

Collard Greens Are More Than a Side Dish — They’re a Story.

Collard greens have been on our tables for generations — but their roots run much deeper. During slavery, collards were one of the only foods enslaved Africans were allowed to plant and eat. From hardship, they created nourishment, culture and community.

Those greens became a symbol of strength, survival and prosperity — and they still feed our spirit today.

But collards aren’t just history…They are health.

Packed with vitamins, fiber, iron, antioxidants and plant-powered nutrients, greens protect our hearts, lower blood pressure, fight inflammation and help prevent diabetes. They truly are power food from the earth.

And here’s the beauty— What’s good for our bodies is also good for our planet.

Growing and eating plant-based foods like collards helps:

  • Improve our soil and local ecosystem

  • Reduce pollution and greenhouse gases

  • Support community gardens and local growers

  • Build healthier neighborhoods here in Thomasville

From survival food to superfood, collards teach us this truth:

"When we honor the land, the land gives back. When we nourish ourselves, we nourish our future." So, let’s keep planting, keep growing and keep choosing foods that heal our bodies, our communities and the earth we depend on.
